LNM - Large Nature Model

The world’s first open-source, multimodal generative AI model dedicated to nature, developed by Refik Anadol Studio

I served as the Field Operations Lead on the Large Nature Model Project, carried out by Refik Anadol Studio in partnership with İşbank and MEXT. Guided by the motto of a “living encyclopedia”, this initiative is an artificial intelligence project aimed at enabling researchers to quickly and easily access comprehensive scientific data about nature and conduct digital investigations. At the same time, it aims to allow those experiencing the model to access and interact with the species and environments they wish to explore in nature.

Key Values Delivered by the Project

  • Documenting virtually a digital copy of nature by collecting data from almost all national parks in Turkey, distinguished by their plant and animal diversity.
  • Gaining extensive expertise in core AI foundational domains, including big data preparation, data curation, and annotation in Turkey.
  • Being the first large-scale nature model developed in Turkey.
  • Serving as a pioneering foundation for generative AI applications and unlocking innovative opportunities across science, technology, and art.

As the Field Operations Lead, my responsibilities included defining, planning, and managing field operations. In this context, I fulfilled the following duties:

  • Determining field data collection methodologies and scope.
  • Conducting field scouting in national parks to identify suitable locations.
  • Coordinating the expedition team.
  • Transforming materials collected in the field into structured datasets.
